Shiatsu Massage
Welcome to Cortiva Institute!
We'd like to be your resource for discovering the healing benefits
of Shiatsu massage.
The goal of shiatsu is to correct imbalances in the body and promote and
maintain optimum body harmony. Shiatsu practitioners use fingers, thumbs,
knuckles and palms to work on the body's acupressure points. Using
the same meridians as Chinese acupuncture, the goal of Shiatsu massage
is to balance energy flow and strengthen the body's natural healing
abilities. Cortiva's Shiatsu massagers are trained in using Shiatsu
as an integral healing method to complement our western massage techniques.
Cortiva's professional and student therapists are taught acupressure,
as well as a variety of healing methods, and go through a comprehensive
massage certification program.

When I found the Muscular Therapy Institute, I realized I was home. The
program sparked my curiosity and fed my enthusiasm for this profession.
Becoming a muscular therapist (and now a teacher) has changed my life.
I now have the opportunity to touch many lives in a profound way and teach
others to do the same.

At Cortiva, we understand that science and technique alone aren't enough.
Through a comprehensive approach to massage therapy training – one
incorporating the best of both science and spirit – we prepare our
students for successful practices in many different professional settings.
As a student here, you'll benefit from a comprehensive combination of
hands-on classroom instruction, clinic work and community outreach programs.
After graduation, we'll continue to give support with ongoing learning
opportunities through continuing education, lectures and workshops.
You'll be challenged and inspired to create your own individual career
path, whether that means working in a hospital, clinic, spa, health club,
or your own private practice. Training covers three top areas of study:
Massage Therapy and Practice
Master fundamental techniques in a classroom setting and practice them
in a supervised and supportive environment. We provide training in body
mechanics and self-care so that you'll enjoy a long and healthy career.
In addition to your Theory and Practice courses, hands-on training in
the Student Clinic and in our Community Outreach program will prepare
you to interact with clients.
Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
Coursework in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology provides a solid foundation
in understanding the function, structure and health of the body. You'll
learn proper terminology, actively reinforced in classroom experiences.
Professional Development
This coursework rounds out your educational experience with the business
basics necessary to succeed as a professional therapist. With the help
of your Instructors, you'll define your goals and target markets for a
successful practice. With exercises in goal setting, writing a resume,
creating a business plan, marketing, advertising and self-management,
you'll walk away with the tools to establish your own practice or apply
for jobs after graduation.
