The Breathable Body
Register Now
Februrary 13, 2010 / Sat 9:00am - 1:00pm / 4 hours / $80
Breathing is steeped in more mythology than any other psychological process. We
draw breath 20,000 times a day. Yet most of us do not how to make the most of our
breath—to use it as a vehicle for richer physical and emotional health. The breath
is one of the most potent tools we have—its power to intervene and assist with the
suffering and pain of everyday life has been known since ancient times. The goal
of The Breathable Body is to help people access that power and use it to make their
lives more nourishing, more comfortable, and more breathable.
The workshop will cover:
- Experiential physiology of how and why the breath works
- Movement education skills to enhance the body’s ability to accommodate breath.
- Replacing old breathing patterns for a lifetime of greater well being
- How to use this new knowledge to benefit you and your client’s everyday life
- Specific breathing tools to be used with your clients that will increase their tissue
receptivity and the benefits of massage
- Breathing exercises that are easy to learn and can be passed along to your clients,
especially those that have breathing challenges, like asthma, allergies, anxiety
and sleep disorders.
- Hands-on skills to improve breathing function through touch.
This workshop will benefit anyone who:
- Wants improvement in their health
- Desires to know more about breathing
- Practices the healing arts
- Suffers from respiratory illness such as asthma, allergies, sinusitis, and bronchial
infections
- Suffers from fatigue, fibromyalgia, or panic attacks
- Wants to have more skills to offer as a massage therapist

Ten Zo
Register Now
Februrary 27, 2010 / Sat 9:00am - 5:00pm / 7 hours / $140
For clients who are uncomfortable removing their clothes for a massage treatment,
or who cannot get down on the floor to receive a shiatsu or Thai massage treatment
on a futon, Ten Zo is the answer. Ten Zo is a treatment given to a fully-clothed
client on a massage table. It uses Western concepts such as a knowledge of anatomy
and the ability to palpate muscle tension, and kneading, elbow and forearm techniques
from massage therapy. The Eastern concepts of qi, kyo and jitsu are incorporated
along with palming, thumbing and range of motion techniques for the hips, shoulders
and neck from shiatsu. To elongate muscles, stretches for the arms, legs and back
from Thai massage complete the treatment. Techniques will be shown a few steps at
a time and by the end of the workshop, participants will have incorporated all of
the steps into a full-body treatment.
Required Clothing: Due to the nature of the stretches used, loose-fitting pants (elastic
waist or drawstring) and a loose-fitting top are required. Tank tops, shorts and
skirts should not be worn because of the risk of exposure. Jeans and other types
of pants with zippers should not be worn because they are too constricting for the
stretches.
Required Equipment: a massage table, linens, hand cleaner, small towel, a pillow
case and bolsters.
Instructor: Sandra K. Anderson, BA, NCTMB has a BA
in biology from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, and has been a licensed massage therapist
since 1992, a certified shiatsu practitioner since 1999, and a certified Thai massage
practitioner since 2002. She taught at The Desert Institute of the Healing Arts
(now Cortiva-Tucson) in Tucson, AZ for 12 years, in subjects ranging from anatomy
and physiology to massage and shiatsu techniques. Since 2004 she has created, developed
and presented continuing education workshops. Sandra is co-owner of Tucson Touch
Therapies, located in Tucson, AZ where she maintains a private clientele. Additionally,
