Table Thai/Herbal Ball Massage

This 25-hour workshop provides a history of Traditional Thai Massage and Medical
Practice and its benefits and uses today. In the workshop, participants will learn
the following with regards to Traditional Thai Massage: describe the Thai Sen (Meridian)
Lines and acupressure points of the body; describe and perform proper etiquette;
prepare the place and equipment; list precautionary indications; list prohibitions;
assess a client; describe and demonstrate the preparation of the therapist; and
describe and demonstrate the techniques utilized by the therapists. Participants
will perform with a client a full two-hour protocol of Traditional Thai Massage
utilizing proper sequence of positions, timing and body mechanics.
Required Material(s): Students should bring two sheets
and massage oil. Students will be required to purchase the Herbal ball during the
workshop from the instructor; price is $10 per ball, or $15 for two.
Instructor: Robert van Overdijk, BS, LMT, CYT. Robert
is an instructor and Master Practioner of Eastern and Western Massage Modalities.

Trigger Point Therapy

Provides therapists with an overview of the anatomy and basic physiology of tripper
points. This workshop examines the major muscles of the body and their common referral
pain patterns, and incorporates a multi-modality approach to deactivation of trigger
points, as well as assessment and treatment plans.
Instructor: Ginger Castle is a Licensed Massage Practitioner
in Arizona and Washington State. She is a practicing therapist with 15 years of
experience. She was a member of a Washington based Clinicians workgroup whose purpose
was to assist in the integration of complementary and allopathic medicine. She participated
in a Skill Standards focus group identifying Skill Standards for Professional -
Technical, College instructors, and Customized Trainers. Ginger's passion with bodywork
and education encourages students to bring their work to a new level of expertise,
by igniting their passion for massage and the benefits of skillfully applied bodywork.

Reflexology for Stress

Recent studies have found that 75% to 85% of all illnesses or conditions are caused
by stress. This one day introductory class in reflexology is designed to help you
comabat stress for yourself, friends and family. It covers the history, definition,
benefits and reflexology and common cnditions. A Workshop manual will be provided.
Required Material(s): Students should bring two sheets
and 2-3 hand towels.
Instructor: Allyn Baker earned her massage certification
and license as a 1998 graduate of the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts in Tucson,
AZ. Along with massage, she practices clinical and spa techniques in her private
practice. Allyn currently works out of her home offering Aromatherapy, Thai, LaStone,
Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage. After practicing in the spa field for a number
of years, Allyn was first a Teaching Assistant then Teacher at the Desert Institute
of the Healing Arts. She later became an Instructor at Cortiva-Institute Tucson,
where she enjoys sharing her passion for all aspects of Massage. She also enjoys
teaching workshops and continuing education classes in her fields of expertise.
Allyn is a nationally certified massage therapist (NCTMB) as well and has been certified
since 2004.

Spa 101

Theoretical and practical techniques are offered in this course designed to build
your competency and confidence in providing basic spa treatments.
Participants will learn:
- spa history,
- terminology and concepts focusing on the theory
behind Pelotherapy (mud),
- thalassotherapy (Seaweed) and full body exfoliation
Required Material(s): Students should bring 2 sets
of linens and pillow cases, plus 2-3 hand towels. Products for each service will
be provided.
Instructor: Jesseca earned her massage certification
and license as a 2004 graduate of the desert institute of the Healing Arts in tucson
AZ. immediately after her graduation she opened her own clinic (oasis massage Clinic),
which she has been successfully running for the last 4 years. Where she offers Swedish
and deep tissue massage, Hydrotherapy, Spa treatments, Aromatherapy, Cupping therapy,
detoxification therapy and reiki. Along with massage, her love and passion for water
and earth-based therapies led her to study & be mentored by Ann mihina, Lmt for
the last few years. Jesseca began as a teaching Assistant at Cortiva institute –
desert institute. She has been a tA for courses such as Spa Foundation & Hydrotherapy.
Since then Jesseca has become an instructor for those classes at Cortiva institute®
– tucson. As an instructor at Cortiva-tucson she delights in sharing her knowledge
& passion for all aspects of massage, Spa and Hydrotherapy. She also enjoys teaching
workshops and continuing education classes in her field of expertise.

Body Mechanics

This interactive workshop is designed to improve body alignment as participants
study their own postural patterns. By developing a conscious connection with the
body based in present movement awareness, participants will learn methods to improve
the use of their body while giving a massage (bodywork) and in daily life, thus
preventing injury to their body (including self-care and nutrition) and enhancing
career longevity. Participants will learn the importance of and practice warm up
and stretching/strengthening exercises as they relate to career longevity. Proper
body mechanics will be learned and emphasized throughout this workshop. A videotaped
session will be conducted to assist participants in identifying specific habitual
patterns during work and methods to help improve these patterns. At the end of the
workshop, a plan will be formulated to assist participants in staying aware of their
posture, nutrition, fitness and stress levels.
Required Material(s): Please bring one set of sheets,
including a pillowcase, one towel, lotion, spritzer, note taking supplies.
Instructor: Jeane Freeman has a degree in exercise
science, is a certified fitness trainer and a licensed massage therapist (DIHA graduate).
She has been involved in the health and fitness industry for 24+ years, an educator
since 1985, and a retired United States Air Force Veteran. Additionally, she is
an independent contractor with the State of Arizona’s Department of Developmental
Disabilities since 2001. She began teaching at the Desert Institute of the Healing
Arts in 2004, which continues now at Cortiva-Tucson, in body mechanics, musculoskeletal
anatomy and kinesiology, special populations and advanced bodywork (injury management
and rehabilitation), to name a few. Jean’e is owner of Total Body Fitness located
in Tucson, AZ where she maintains her private practice. She is the author of Career
Longevity: A Practitioners Guide to Body Mechanics and Wellness, to be published
by FA Davis in 2011. Her commitment in providing continuing professional education
in the field of bodywork on a variety of levels (research, planning, education,
etc.) is extremely important to her.
