Melting Muscles Shortening Phases Massage
Register Now
January 10 - 11, 2009 / 9:00am - 5:00pm / 14 hours / $250
This class is a prerequisite for Melting Muscles Teacher Training.
Melting Muscles is a conversation you initiate with a person's sub- conscious
brain. Your hands say "safely" through positioning short of the subtle
motion barrier, movements that are slow and steady, pressure that gradually
builds and retires, and by seeking to feel the cranial muscle motion.
The person "hears" through their muscle proprioceptors and pressure sensors.
The person "replies" by reducing muscle contraction, and by reversing
or releasing cranial muscle motion. You keep the conversation interesting
by adding your own personal strokes to the muscles. Whether the person's
forebrain falls asleep, talks about the weather, tries to "help" or resist,
you remain engaged in a lively conversation with the person's subconscious
brain. Because treatments are gentle and thumb-free, your hands are happy.
Their muscles relax more fully and permanently than ever before. Negotiating
directly with the brain does far more than relax muscles: the immune system
finds more joy in supporting the person. The digestive, endocrine, integumentary,
nervous, and cardiovascular systems return to efficient balance. A person
in a state of peace rethinks behaviors and relation- ships. The world
becomes a better place.
Instructor: Patrick Moore
- Patrick's love for science, nature, and spirituality was apparent from
an early age. In Oregon, he was a Boy Scout camping every month, snow,

Atlas and Axis Release using Melting Muscles Shortening

You will learn to release the obliquus capitis inferior muscles that rotate
the atlanto-axial joint. Because we begin simple and add only simple steps,
your hands easily digest the maneuvers until you are surprised to see
the complex sequence your hands are doing. I guarantee everyone in class
will get it. Now, your conscious brain is likely to forget what you learn
this day unless you also read the workbook several times within a week
or two. The workbook will be e-mailed to you as soon as you register so
that you may read ahead of you like. After mastering the complex AA joint,
learning to release the occipito-atlantal sidebenders (obliquus superior)
and myodural bridge (rectus capitis minor) will seem easy as pie. Prepare
to be profoundly relaxed when you receive this ultra-gentle maneuver.

Advanced Melting Muscles - Unwinding
Register Now
January 13, 2009 / 9:00am - 5:00pm / 7 hours / $140
This class is a prerequisite for Melting Muscles Teacher Training.
The cerebellum never sleeps. Night and day, this hindbrain organ stands
guard, monitoring proprioceptors for safety. To maintain awareness of
where the body is in space, the crebellum slowly signals a slightly greater
percentage of contraction to agonist, antagonist, agonist, antagonist,
in a graceful wave that varies in a few times per minute. You can't feel
your own body moving, but you can feel someone else's. Each joint naturally
moves away from neutral in one direction, then coasts back through neutral
and other direction, like a swing in slow motion. The cerebellum also
holds ancient memories, like a jailer. While feeling threatened, it commands
muscles in a particular area to contract more than their share. A trained
therapist senses this guarding because the muscular impulses pull a joint
away from neutral position and stay there, rather than flowing in equal
rhythm. For unwinding, we don't force the joint back toward neutral - that
would trigger the brain to feel more endangered. We want the brain to
feel safe, to trust us. So we assist the joint in the same direction the
muscles are already guarding and hold it there until it feels safe to
let go. So far, we are just doing Unwinding. Now, we stroke and press
the one muscle that is pulling more than its share. With the addition
of this soothing sensation, the hindbrain is joyous to release its guard
much sooner than it would without the muscle work. With practice, we target
the poor puppet muscle and begin melting it even before the joint has
reached its shortest position, so that the movement slows and returns
in one graceful arc. This all sounds complex in writing, but once you
begin doing it your hands find it very simple and familiar. Everyone gets
it! The entire class is spent at the massage tables so you will be receiving
several hours of flowing, graceful massage during your day :)
Prerequisites: Any melting
muscles course, cranio sacral or myofascial release.

Ethics Topics - Creating Equal Relationships
Register Now
January 14, 2009 / 9:00am - 4:00pm / 6 hours / $90 / Fulfills NCBTMB Standard
V requirement
This class is a prerequisite for Melting Muscles Teacher Training.
Rather than a list of "Do's" and "Don'ts" this ethics class explores more
about how to create relationships that are healthier and lighter. Yeah,
we have to cover boundaries and transference, but we'll approach from
a completely different perspective than the textbooks. In practice, we
find many differences in power from one massage relationship to the next,
and the power may even switchd during a massage. In fact, many of us have
experienced a controlling client, where we hold our breath until we can
get them on the table and sedate them into submission, so the power equalizes
or switches. If we could just find ways to begin on equal footing, and
maintain equality throughout, every moment of relating would be a joy.
There are many ways to balance relationships including big adjustments
like: sole proprietor or group coop vs. employee or employer situations,
and small details like; adjusting for equal eye level while doing the
intake conversation, suggestions for how money is collected and lateness
policies, is your tone of voice perceived as fatherly or motherly?, how
you decorate the room, how you dress, and whether to hand the person a
bottle of water vs. pointing where they may get their own. Class includes
group discussion, short talks about Authority, short stories about actual
situations, and plenty of time for your concerns and questions. This relaxed,
interactive class explores solutions to make your therapeutic relationships
more fun and rewarding.

Reiki Level I

January 31, 2009 / 12:00pm - 5:00pm / 5 hours / $150
Rediscovered in 1914 by Mikao Usui, Reiki is an ages-old healing method
transmitted from teacher to student by an attunement given into your chakras
and plams of your hands. Course is student-centered, focusing on your
questions and concerns, with lots of partner practice and fun. This course
and atttunement are all you need to offer Reiki to the public, either
by placing hands lightly on the body in 12 preset positions, or by holding
your hands 12 to 18 inches above the body. Many LMT's simply add Reiki
energy in to their existing massage sessions. This course is also open
to people who are not body workers, who would like to do Reiki on friends,
family, animals and oneself. Receiving the Reiki attunement and practicing
on yourself is a wonderful healing complement for those undergoing chemo,
radiation or other treatments. Reiki is very effective as self-care for
alleviating physical stresses in your body, and mental, emotional and
spiritual resolution of old patterns. Reiki also empowers goals, abundance,
starts broken cars, assists first aid, connects you with nature, animals,
and boosts creativity. A fun, low pressure class.
Includes: Workbook
that shows hand positions, history, and philosophy of Reiki.

Standing Wave Jostling
Register Now
February 1, 2009 / 10:00am - 3:00pm / 5 hours / $95
People bring heavy emotions and hard muscles into the massage room. Jostling
lightens up the tone of any bodywork session. In the last five years,
research has shown that playful teasing aids a depth of trust and communication.
Jostling is playful and aids depth of nonverbal communication and trust.
Jostling is both an art and a science. The science part is the "standing
wave," which we will diagram. Hands-on exercises include learning to play
"overtones" on a guitar and to jostle a rope into a standing wave. Once
the waveform is seen, heard, and felt proprioceptively, we move on to
create standing waves through your partner on the massage table. We will
also do seven dance/movement exercises to jostle our own bodies free
at the chakras for an "inside" experience of standing wave jostling. Technique
you will learn: By poking the bottom of the foot you will learn to create
a vibration of hip elevation and lumbar rotation. While working the hand
we vibrate the shoulder and neck.

Treating Tendonitis

February 22, 2009 / 10:00am - 2:00pm / 4 hours / $80
Tendonitis is not inflammation, but scar tissue. Reversing tendonitits
is simply a matter of removing the overgrowth with the effects of ice,
massage, and intention. An important part of healing is to redirect the
person's perspective. My extensive experience reversing tendonitis has
allowed me to offer hope to sufferers. Hope, visualization, and expectation,
research has shown, have tremendous influence with the immune system.
Learn to explain to clients how and why their immune system is now reversing
the scar tissue, as your hands massage the mundane tendon and muscle work.

Hot Stones Therapy
Register Now
March 1, 2009 / 9:00am - 5:00pm / 7 hours / $140
The roots of stone massage can be traced in any direction back to many
and varied cultures. Scandinavians used sauna stones to sooth arthritic
joints. Hawaiian lava stones have been used for warmth and healing. In
Asia, hot and cold therapy, which includes the use of stones has been
used for thousands of years. Lastly tribal medicines from all over the
world have traditions of shamans using stones in healing ceremonies. It
is also said that cowboys used to heat stones in the fire and used them
to warm their bedrolls on cold desert nights. All over the world, stones
are useful tools. They have been and continue to be used to cook food,
heat water, or make steam. Think about what you do if given a warm towel.
It is not hard to imagine someone using a warm stone to warm their hands
or sooth a tight muscle. In 1993, Mary Nelson (a graduate of the Desert
Institute of the Healing Arts in Tucson, AZ) formalized a technique for
using hot and cold stones to massage the body and open energy channels,
facilitating self-healing and body-mind awareness. She named her modality
LaStone Therapy and continues to teach it in Tucson and all over the world.
Since LaStone Therapy's inception the use of heated and chilled stones
as a therapeutic treatment has become widespread and is now a popular
therapy at many spas.

Advanced Topics - Releasing Cellular Memory
Register Now
March 29, 2009 / 10:00am - 3:00pm / 5 hours / $95
Cellular memories may be stored in an organ, muscle, fluid, or any tissue.
A man receiving a kidney transplant found his taste in reading material
changing from tabloids to Jane Austen. Long Term Genetic memory includes
the inheritance of tendencies that aid survival of the species, such as
recognizing tigers as something that might want to eat me, and deer as
something I might want to eat. These patterns have been in place for a
million years, created through natural selection - those who had the memories
lived (long enough to pass on their DNA) more frequently than those who
did not get the memories. Human male group strategies for having more
DNA in the next generation lean toward impregnating multiple females,
while female group strategies lean toward enticing one man to stay loyal
to protect her offspring. The human body has only become lactose tolerant
in the last five thousand years, when dairy farming began, and now lactose
tolerance is passed on to most human offspring. Short Term Genetic Memory:
Charles Darwin believed that genes changed only randomly and could only
be selected by survival of populations over thousands of generations.
In fact this belief remains prominent even with experts like Stephen Jay
Gould. However, Chevalier de Lamarck (1744 - 1829) argued against Darwin
that each being changes intelligently in response to life events and passes
these altered genes to their children. In 2007 research finally proved
him accurate. Male mice exposed to a particular pesticide were avoided
by females, and so were the exposed mice's children and children's children
for several generations, showing that the genes changed and passed into
offspring. This means each of us may have genetic predispositions, aversions,
skills, or other adaptations to events that our parents, grandparents,
or great-grandparents experienced. Pathogens are remembered by the immune
system so that immunity remains lifelong. It is widely believed that mothers
may pass immunity to many pathogens through breast milk. Archetypal memory,
postulated by Carl Jung, would explain the symbolism that has meaning
and value for most or all humans such as rites of passage, interpretations
of dreams, the deeper meaning of animal symbolism like the eagle, the
coyote, the bear, and the snake. Traumas create a very strong imprint
that may stay in the body for years, decades, or longer. The Gulf War
alone has produced 10,000 Traumatic Brain Injuries and Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorders. When suffering continues after physical and mental healing
modalities have been exhausted, many therapists are now allowing the possibility
of past life traumas. About the course: Using scanning techniques borrowed
from Reiki (Byosen Scanning) and John Upledger (Arcing), students learn
to locate trauma in the body and brain. Using a combination of visualization,
symbolism, hands-on energy, hands-above energy, breathwork, and intention,
we coax the patterns free of the body, often with immediate changes in
muscle tension, breathing, and positive comments from the recipient. This
course is in the "Advanced Topics in Energy" series is for those practitioners
who have previous education and experience using energy work, craniosacral,
osteopathic technique, shamanism, faith-based healing, or other ways of
detecting and releasing unwanted patterns.
Prerequisites: Any energy
work, craniosacral, faith-based healing or shamanism training.

Deep Tissue Massage

April 26, 2009 / 9:00am - 5:00pm / 7 hours / $140
This course is designed to focus on the skillful application of soft tissue
techniques that will allow deeper to the fascia and muscular layers of
the body. This comprehensive combination of techniques will create long
term results and generate a greater sense of relief from chronic muscular
tension. Chronic muscular tension patterns can reduce blood flow and restrict
the removal of metabolic wastes, resulting in pain and loss of function.
Typical syperficial and passive massage techniques often do not provide
the desired relief; this can be frustrating for the client as well as
the therapist and it can actually cause more reflexive muscular tension.
This practitioner will learn treatment strategies that are direct, purposeful,
and easy to apply with the intended purpose of releasing these muscular
tension patterns. The practicing therapist will learn how to use tissue
recognition, cross-fiber friction, passive movement, neurological inhibition,
breath and positioning to enhance the overall effectiveness of each technique.
The ultimate goal is reaching the desired treatment outcome, securing
longevity and feeling a sense of personal satisfaction from bodywork that
is "practitioner friendly" and effortless to apply.
