At Cortiva, we're fortunate to find ourselves immersed in the vitality,
healthy lifestyle and culture of Tucson and the Southern Arizona region.
Tucson is famous for its rich history and long-established neighborhoods,
with many traditions derived from its strong ethnic roots. Although it's
a thriving metropolitan area with a population over 500,000, Tucson manages
to maintain its unique identity. Both the Arizona Opera and Arizona Theatre
Company are located in Tucson, indicative of a vibrant arts community.
Three of "America's Best Spas" chosen by Spa Finder magazine readers are
in Arizona - two are in Tucson. In 2003, Natural Health magazine, in their
annual rankings of the healthiest cities in the U.S., placed Tucson in
the top 30 of the thousands of cities they reviewed for lifestyle and
environment.
The University of Arizona, with its renowned medical department, is also
located n Tucson Dr. Andrew Weil established the Program in Integrative
Medicine here in 1994. Also, the large and thriving alternative healing
community in Tucson makes it a very supportive environment for training
in Massage Therapy and Shiatsu.
All in all, you couldn't ask for a better place o study and practice massage
and the healing arts.
"Tucson is Arizona's second largest city, a metropolitan sweep of industry,
educationbut the Sonoran Desert rises through it all, providing a potent
backdrop for healing and spas of all description. Here, in the immense
sky, it's possible to find some solace, some consolation, a transcendental
home."

"'This is the most interesting and stimulating environment I have ever
lived in. There's a fitness-conscious population here, people are more
active, closer to nature, and smoke less than in the East.' Dr. Weil explained.
'There's a tradition, after all, of people going into the desert to find
enlightenment.'"
