Flexibility Training 1 - Introductory Level
Register Now
September 13 - 14, 2008 / 9:00am - 5:00pm / 14 hours / $300
Instructor: Jeff McConnell

This course is designed to teach the L.M.T. how to safely stretch the muscles of the shoulders, hips, and knees using an active isolated movement. This method of stretching uses reciprocal innervation/inhibition of the appropriate muscles while isolating the movement to a single joint and single plane of movement. The participants will learn how to safely assist their clients in performing these stretches, thereby augmenting whatever bodywork that the L.M.T. may already be providing. Knowing how to lengthen muscle and fascial tissue that has shortened enables one to assist the client into a more balanced and erect posture, thus reducing the stress on the postural muscles. Not only can this form of stretching be used to treat various musculo-skeletal problems, it can also be used as a preventative tool to help avoid injuries and as a means to enhance an athlete's performance.

Please bring: Wear clothes that are easy to move around and stretch in, set of linens, writing utensil

Register Now
September 19 - 22, 2008 / 9:00am - 6:00pm / 32 hours / $640

In partnership with DONA International, Cortiva is pleased to offer this Introduction to Childbirth and DONA International Approved Birth Doula Workshop - two of the requirements to become a DONA International Certified Birth Doula. Women across the globe appreciate and value the experience of having a doula, a knowledgeable, experienced companion who stays with them through labor and birth and offers emotional support, encouragement and wisdom. In this module, students learn the art of supporting women in labor, as well as the anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive system, the three stages of labor and some common medical interventions and tests that may occur during labor. Students learn the benefits of labor support by a trained birth doula, as well as specific emotional and physical support techniques for the woman and her partner during labor and immediately postpartum. The course also provides information on running a successful birth doula business.

Students who do not intend to become Certified Birth Doulas benefit from this module by improving their understanding of the birth process to provide pregnancy massage clients and their partners with helpful techniques for labor and delivery, as well as to apply this understanding to more effective postpartum massage.

Completion of this DONA International approved course provides two requirements towards becoming a DONA International Certified Birth Doula - completion of a DONA International approved Birth Doula Workshop and a childbirth education course. After this module, students complete DONA International's Birth Doula Certification by attending three births and completing required reading and written work.

*DONA International is the world's premier doula organization and is the oldest, largest, most respected doula association with over 5,600 members who serve families in more than twenty countries around the world.
