A popular axiom of historians is "to know the future, one must know the
past". The history of our massage school demonstrates a commitment to
leadership, excellence, progress, innovation, and a willingness to take
risks in order to effect change in education.
The Humanities Center was established in 1981 under its original sole
owner, Audrey Flax. In January of 1983, the school was purchased by Sherry
Fears and has remained under her guidance until 2005, when the Humanities
Center was acquired by Cortiva Institute (Florida), LLC whose sole stockholder
is Cortiva Education, Inc.
Shortly following accreditation in 1985, the school was recognized as
an institution of higher education and was able to offer eligible students
Federal Financial Aid, was recognized by the Department of Immigration
and Naturalization, and became a member of the AMTA.
Through the years the Humanities Center has continued its commitment to
excellence. Back in the 1980s, our school was one of the first massage
schools in the country to develop and implement a voluntary rotation through
a major hospital/cancer treatment facility. The Humanities Center also
was a leader in the development and offering of a supervised student clinic
open to the public, as part of our students' training, which continues
today.
In addition to improving our "community credits", we are also constantly
dedicated to improving our facility. We are housed in a 10,000 sq.ft.
free-standing professional building located on 1 1/2 acres. In 1997, we
renovated the entire building and its landscaping. In 2004, another complete
renovation was completed, ensuring that the school maintains its professional,
contemporary appearance, which our students and internship clients love.
We have also taken advantage of the "multimedia revolution" by being at
the forefront of implementing multimedia tools into lecture and hands-on
classes with the use of three LCD projectors, numerous monitors, PowerPoint
presentations, our computer learning lab, and instructional videos. These
state of the art learning tools have added greatly to the students' abilities
to visualize and understand both lecture and hands on course work.
Each one of us at the school has made a commitment to excellence, and
to putting you in touch with your new career.
