Programs - Federal Way

A Cortiva massage education is designed to prepare students to begin and sustain successful and personally rewarding careers in Massage Therapy. For this reason, our programs significantly exceed the education requirements for the Washington State licensing and national certification. We offer full time day and part time evening programs.

Our curriculum is grounded in our belief that scientific foundations and inspirational, real-life experiences create passionate massage therapy professionals. Our programs provide high-quality integrated learning opportunities. Each course contains essential information, skills and applications for becoming quality touch therapists in the field of massage, bodywork and somatics. The programs are grounded in the wisdom of the body, mind, and spirit, teaching client-centered massage and bodywork.

As a student here, you'll benefit from a comprehensive combination of hands-on classroom instruction, clinic work and community outreach. After graduation, we'll continue to support you with ongoing learning opportunities through continuing education, lectures and workshops.

Cortiva Institute - Federal Way offers the following massage therapy programs: Professional Massage Therapy & Extended Professional Massage Therapy

Professional Massage Therapy Diploma, 750 clock hours

Cortiva Institute's Professional Massage Therapy Program is a comprehensive course of instruction that bridges intellectual discipline with technical expertise. Grounded in the value of client-centered care, courses in massage theory and practice, communication and ethics in therapeutic relationships, as well as real life clinical experience are supported and complemented by studies in the structure, function and disease of the human body. Engaged and competent faculty supported by relevant textbooks and classroom technology blend scientific foundations and hands-on instruction to create an experiential learning environment that builds clinical reasoning skills. Added instruction in the elements of designing a career path ensures that the graduating student will be a competent massage therapist, prepared to take the National Certification Exam.

The Professional Massage Therapy program is comprised of 750 clock hours and the program can be completed in nine (9) months within a three (3) quarter schedule.

Graduates of Cortiva Institute massage programs are prepared to:

  • Demonstrate the skills, knowledge and attitude for a successful career in massage therapy.
  • Apply their theoretical knowledge and practical skill to design and implement competent therapeutic and wellness massage treatment plans for a wide variety of clients.
  • Exhibit personal and professional ethics and conduct essential to the practice of massage and bodywork.
  • Practice as professional massage therapists in their own business or as employees.
  • Assume the role of a health care professional in serving the community and promoting the massage profession.
Extended Professional Massage Therapy Diploma, 1000 clock hours

Cortiva Institute's Extended Professional Massage Therapy Program offers a variety of additional opportunities for students to explore and broaden their experience of the practice of massage through mentorship and real-life clinical experience. By adding 250 hours to the Professional Massage Therapy Program, the Extended Program will provide students a distinguishing advantage as they enter the professional world. Specialty clinics, case reviews and research applications, elective modalities and advanced bodywork courses complement each other to provide students with creative avenues to refine and enhance the client-centered care skills developed throughout their first 750 hours of education. An additional business course, Career Decisions, further helps students as they build a real-time plan to achieve their professional goals. Graduates of the Extended Massage Therapy Program at Cortiva Institute's Federal Way massage school are prepared to work professionally as part of an interdisciplinary team of health and wellness care providers. Faculty actively practicing in the field of massage supervises the additional hands-on experience and clinical practice by mentoring students to develop greater self-confidence they can take with them as they begin their new career as massage therapists.

The Extended Professional Massage Therapy program is comprised of 1000 clock hours and the program can be completed in 12 months in the four (4) quarter schedule or 15 months in the five (5) quarter schedule.

Upon completion, graduates of either program will be prepared to work as a massage therapist in a variety of environments such as clinics, spas, hospitals, or in their own private practice.

At the successful completion of either program, the student will receive a Diploma.
