Cortiva Institute to provide Chair Massages to Builders

The Emmy-award winning hit ABC television show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, is in the region with an extreme home makeover and Cortiva Institute is playing an important role in the project.
Students from Cortiva Institute, located in Watertown, Mass., will provide chair massages to the volunteer builders throughout the week-long process, from Tuesday, June 23 – Saturday, June 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. each day. Cortiva Institute offers full- and part-time instruction in massage therapy, taking a holistic and integrated approach in its education programs.
Western New England builder Kent Pecoy, of Pecoy Signature Homes has been chosen by the show to build the home in the span of just one week.
According to Diane Polseno, president of Cortiva Institute – Boston, School of Massage Therapy, “This is a remarkable opportunity for our organization to be part of something that will change the lives of a very deserving family. We are proud of our role in providing massage to workers, helping to prevent and relieve muscle soreness and cramps to these workers performing difficult hands-on work.”
Saskia Coté, a Cortiva instructor, notes that the one-week build can be a major cause of stress for the workers and her students will provide just the relief workers need. “Among its many benefits, massage calms the nervous system and promotes a sense of relaxation and well being as well as reducing tension and anxiety,” she said.
Heading into its seventh season, the show’s theme will be “get on the bus” inspiring community to join the extreme team in making a difference all across the country. The home build will occur the week of June 21, 2009. The lucky area family, yet to be identified, will be surprised on June 21 by a visit from Ty Pennington, team leader for the show when the family’s identity will be made public. The show’s cast will “reveal” the new home on Sunday, June 28 when Pennington recites the show’s signature phrase, “move that bus!”
Pecoy Signature Homes, considered among the premier custom homebuilders and remodelers in Western New England, was asked to be the lead builder on the project. Pecoy is sending out a call in the region to sub-contractors and materials providers to participate by contacting Pecoy Signature Homes at www.extremepecoy.com.
Pecoy Signature Homes, as well as other subcontractors and vendors are providing services and materials on a donated basis as part of the build.
In addition to transforming the lives of hundreds of families and individuals, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has inspired millions of people in this country and beyond. The show has been aired in 69 countries, translated into 58 languages and viewed by a billion people worldwide.
